Thank you for your interest in participating in The RockiesFest Doubles Cornhole Tournament. Registration opens on March 1, 2027
RockiesFest Double Cornhole Official Rules and Regulations
1. Team Requirements
Each team must consist of two registered players.
All players must be 19 years of age or older.
Teams must check in with tournament officials before their first game.
Teams are responsible for knowing their game times, tournament schedule, and assigned umpiring duties.
Good sportsmanship and respect for all players, umpires, volunteers, and tournament officials are required.
2. Tournament Format
The tournament will begin with Round Robin play.
Teams will earn points based on their game results and the tournament scoring system.
The top 16 teams from the Round Robin standings will advance to bracket play.
Bracket play will follow a single-elimination format unless otherwise announced by tournament officials.
Bracket seeding will be determined by the final Round Robin standings, including applicable penalties and tie-breaking procedures.
Tournament officials reserve the right to adjust the schedule or format if required due to weather, delays, or other unforeseen circumstances.
3. Game Length and Starting Team
Each game will be played to 21 points or a maximum of 25 minutes, whichever comes first.
Reaching 21 points or more ends the game immediately after the frame is completed. If a team reaches or exceeds 21 points during a frame, both teams will finish that frame before the game ends.
If the 25-minute time limit expires before a team reaches 21 points, the game will end at the completion of the current frame, as directed by the umpire.
The team with the higher score at the end of the final frame wins.
If the score is tied when time expires, the tie-breaking procedure in Section 5 will apply.
Bag spinning will determine which team starts the game. A representative from each team will participate in the bag spin before play begins. The result will determine which team throws first, as directed by the umpire.
Teams must follow the umpire’s instructions regarding the start and end of each game.
4. Cornhole Scoring and Cancellation Points
The tournament will use cancellation scoring.
Each bag that lands on the board and remains on the playing surface at the end of the frame is worth one (1) point.
Each bag that passes through the hole is worth three (3) points.
Bags that land on the ground or touch the ground before coming to rest on the board do not score.
At the end of each frame, the points scored by one team are cancelled out by the points scored by the opposing team.
Only the difference between the two teams’ scores is awarded for that frame.
Example:
Team A scores 7 points in a frame.
Team B scores 4 points in the same frame.
Team A receives 3 points for that frame, and Team B receives 0 points.
The umpire is responsible for confirming the frame score before the next frame begins.
Teams must raise scoring disputes immediately, before the next frame begins wherever possible.
5. Tie-Breaking Procedures
A. Tied Game Scores
If a game is tied when the 25-minute time limit expires, a tie-breaker will be used to determine the winner.
Each player from both teams will throw one bag.
The player whose bag lands closest to the hole will determine the winning team.
The umpire will judge which bag is closest to the hole. If there is a dispute, the umpire’s decision will be final.
If the bags are equally close or the umpire cannot determine a winner, the players will repeat the tie-break procedure until a winner is determined.
B. Ties in Round Robin Standings
If two or more teams are tied in the Round Robin standings and the tie affects qualification for the top 16 or bracket seeding, the tied teams will play one additional frame against each other to determine their ranking.
The additional frame will follow the same cancellation scoring rules outlined in Section 4.
The team that wins the additional frame will receive the higher ranking among the tied teams.
If more than two teams are tied, tournament officials will determine the order and matchups for the additional frames.
If an additional frame does not resolve the tie, tournament officials will determine the next step and communicate it to the affected teams.
Any seven-point penalty for a missed umpiring assignment will be applied to the team’s Round Robin score before final standings and bracket qualification are determined.
6. Game Times and Forfeitures
Teams must be at their assigned playing area and ready to play at the scheduled start time.
If a team does not show up for its scheduled game within five (5) minutes of the scheduled start time, that team will forfeit the game.
A forfeited game will be recorded as a loss, with the score or standings treatment determined by tournament officials.
Teams anticipating a delay must notify tournament officials as soon as possible. Notification does not guarantee an extension.
Repeated lateness or failure to attend scheduled games may result in further penalties or disqualification.
7. Mandatory Umpiring Duties
ALL TEAMS ARE REQUIRED TO UMPIRE CORNHOLE GAMES DURING THE TOURNAMENT.
Each team will be assigned umpiring duties throughout the tournament.
The umpiring schedule will be included in each team’s tournament package.
Teams are responsible for reviewing their assigned umpiring times and ensuring their duties are covered.
Teams must report to the designated playing area on time and be ready to umpire.
Umpires must remain impartial, apply the rules consistently, keep track of scoring, and resolve routine scoring questions fairly.
Disputes that cannot be resolved by the assigned umpire must be referred to tournament officials.
If a team fails to show up for its scheduled umpiring assignment, seven (7) points will be deducted from that team’s Round Robin score at the end of Round Robin play.
This penalty may affect the team’s final standing and eligibility for bracket play.
Tournament officials will determine whether an umpiring assignment was missed and apply the appropriate penalty.
8. Sportsmanship and Conduct
All participants must behave respectfully and responsibly throughout the tournament.
Abusive language, intimidation, harassment, unsportsmanlike conduct, or deliberate interference with play will not be tolerated.
Players must respect umpire decisions and follow tournament officials’ directions.
Complaints must be brought to tournament officials in a respectful manner.
Tournament officials may issue warnings, impose penalties, declare a game forfeited, or disqualify a team for serious or repeated misconduct.
9. Disputes and Tournament Officials
Routine scoring questions should be addressed calmly with the assigned umpire.
Unresolved disputes must be referred to a tournament official.
Tournament officials have final authority over rule interpretations, scoring disputes, forfeitures, penalties, standings, tie-breakers, and bracket seeding.
Decisions made by tournament officials regarding tournament administration are final.
10. General Regulations
Teams must follow all tournament schedules, instructions, and facility rules.
Teams are responsible for keeping track of their game results and reviewing posted standings.
Tournament organizers reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the rules, schedule, or format when necessary to ensure the tournament runs fairly and efficiently.
Participation in the tournament constitutes agreement to follow these rules and regulations.
